Home Care Package

CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn is an Approved Aged Care provider and can work with you to manage your home care package to allow you to remain living safely and comfortably in your own home.

A Home Care Package is an allocation of funds from the Commonwealth Government which allows you to purchase the supports you want and need to help you remain living in your home. The total amount of funds you have to spend is based on the daily subsidy paid by the Commonwealth Government (outlined below) to your selected provider, plus a contribution from you based on your income. You may also be eligible for additional supplements which will increase the amount available in your package. To get an idea of the fees you may be asked to contribute, you can use the Fee Estimator on the My Aged Care website.

How does it work?

There are 4 levels of packages, all of which CatholicCare can support you to manage.

Level 1 – This level of package is for individuals with a basic level of support needs. The subsidy for a level 1 package is $22.35 a day and equates to roughly 3 hours of support per week depending on your financial situation and support arrangements.

Level 2 – This level of package is for individuals with a low level of support needs. The subsidy for a level 2 package is $40.65 a day and equates to roughly 6 hours of support per week depending on your financial situation and support arrangements.

Level 3This level of package is for individuals with intermediate support needs. The subsidy for a level 3 package is $89.37 a day and equates to roughly 13 hours of support per week depending on your financial situation and support arrangements.

Level 4 – This level of package is for individuals with high support needs. The subsidy for a level 4 package is $135.87 a day and equates to roughly 20 hours of support per week depending on your financial situation and support arrangements.

You may already receiving support through an Aged Care Service, such as CatholicCare’s SINC Program, or you may not have ever had support from a provider, either way, if you feel like you might need more support than you currently get, you can contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit the My Aged Care website. If you would like some support with this process you can call us on 6163 7600 and speak with one of our experienced Aged Care Team.

How can I get a Home Care Package?

There are usually two options:

  • You will meet with a local assessor from the My Aged Care Regional Assessment Service (RAS) for a home support assessment, or
  • You will meet with someone from an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) for a comprehensive assessment.

Following an assessment you will be informed what level of supports you will receive to assist with your in home support.

If you aren’t deemed eligible for a Home Care Package or you need support until your Package is allocated, CatholicCare’s SINC program, which is funded by the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, may be able to assist.
